In 1991, eight people met with a vision—to develop a bike trail connecting Maine to Florida. They imagined a place where bicyclists, walkers, runners, inline skaters, horseback riders, wheelchair users, cross-country skiers, and more—of all ages and abilities—would feel safe commuting and recreating.
Fast forward 30 years and the East Coast Greenway now stretches 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida, connecting the nation’s busiest corridor and providing the residents of 15 states an opportunity to pursue healthier lifestyles and sustainable transportation. Each state also enjoys the added benefits from increased visitation as more and more tourists pursue cycling trips on the Greenway.
On Greenway.org, cyclists can find all the resources they need to plan an ECG cycling trip, whether they plan on riding for a few days or a few months. These resources include but are not limited to maps, videos, and specialized tools that make it easy to execute a ride along the East Coast Greenway.
Now with 3,000 miles of routes, The East Coast Greenway recognized the need to make planning a trip and finding access points as easy as possible. So, in 2017, it launched an updated version of its online mapping tool, map.greenway.org, which helps cyclists locate the closest point on the Greenway from wherever they are and allows them to download GPX files or turn-by-turn cue sheets of trips along the Greenway of any length. The tool functions on computers and as a web app on mobile devices.
Because the East Coast Greenway also gets so many requests for ride recommendations, including where to stay and dine, the website also offers itineraries crafted by its staff and other Greenway experts. These itineraries cover dozens of cities up and down the coast and range from one-day to multi-day trips.

Take the East Coast Greenway Challenge with Timberline Adventures
Per greenway.org, close to 70 cyclists—and three walkers—have completed the entire route in the Greenway’s first 25 years. As more people learn of the route, increasing numbers of cyclists are attempting to ride long stretches of the entire end-to-end route.
Join this exclusive group of end-to-end finishers with Timberline Adventures, a cycling and hiking tour operator that runs trips in all parts of the country.
Timberline Adventures will run the first-ever, fully supported cycling trip from Maine to Florida along the East Coast Greenway from September 2021 through November 2021.
The epic ride begins on the banks of the St. Croix River in Maine. Cyclists ride through the woods, along the waterways of the coast, and down the shoreline into Boston. Months later, the tour will wrap up along Florida’s beaches, where resort cities alternate with state parks, island hopping, and inter-coastal waterway paths.
The East Coast Greenway tour is broken into four segments, so riders can choose to ride one, two, three, or all four segments.
Timberland Adventures details each section of the tour on its website, describing where riders will be each day, how many miles they can expect to ride, and where they will stay throughout the journey.
The prices listed on Timberline Adventures are good through May 15, 2021 and include all lodging, breakfasts, snacks, dinners, support van, leaders, tour maps, cue sheets, GPX files, and narratives.
Each segment can be booked separately, and multiple segments qualify for cumulative discounts—2nd segment booked earns 5% off, 3rd segment booked earns 10% off, 4th segment booked earns 15% off.
